Ran and Thambor are the two hills from which the name Ranthambore has found both of them are close proximity. The Ranthambore Park is set between the Aravalli and Vindhya ranges. Its deciduous forests were once a part of the magnificent jungles of Central India.It is a small village situated in the state of the Rajasthan.Ranthambhor is one of the best places to see the Old crumbling walls, ruined pavilions, wells, and other ancient
structures stand witness to the region's glorious past.The Ranthambore National park covers an area of Appx 390 sq Kilometers and if combined it with the area of sawai man singh sanctuary area,it is appx.500 Sq kms.

The magnificent Ranthambore Fort is one of the oldest forts in India. The Fort was built
by the Kachhwaha Rajputs but there is no certainty about the time and who the actual
founder was.. In 1955 Ranthambhore became a sanctuary and was one of the very first
protected areas. Now a national park, it has an area of over 400 square kilometers with a tiger population of a little over a hundred. A glorious era in the history of Ranthambore began when Emperor Akbar captured it in 1569 and in the process took control of the fort from the Rajputs.
