The 1772 home of Patrick Smyth has been open to the public since 1953, with genuine furnishings which depict the lives of occupants.  The Old Fort House Museum was constructed by Patrick Smyth in 1772 with timbers taken from the ruins of Fort Edward , a French and Indian War fortification.Museum has palanquins, lavishly, a golden throne, shoes with pearls, paintings, mirrors, cribs weapons and a magnificently embroidered royal tent among its exhibits.

The fort was built in 1459 by Rao Jodha the founder of Jodhpur on the height of a steep hill called the Bakharchiriya . The fortress was fortified by eight Pols or gates regulating entry into the premises. Located on the periphery of the Thar desert . Mehrangarh means "Majestic Fort". It is at the center of the city and is visible from the city. Formerly built in 1806 the fort has been added to many times since. The palaces of this fort were built in an informal pattern.
